Adapalene is a new naphthoic acid derivatives developed by the French company Galdeama Laboratories. It was first marketed in France in June 1996 under the trade name "Differin" and is mainly used to improve inflammatory skin lesions and regulate hair follicles , Sebaceous gland epithelial cell differentiation and acne treatment.
Pharmacological effects
Adapalene is a retinoid that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in in vivo and in vitro inflammatory models, is chemically stable, does not decompose readily in air and light. The mechanism of action is the same as that of retinoic acid and binds to specific retinoid receptors, with the difference that adapalene does not bind to protein-bound cytoplasmic receptors.
